Hi! It's been a while since I posted anything here. I tried redesigning the kids once in the DotT style but I thought it was too stressful as I didn't know what to properly exaggerate. I decided to try it again with more experience and research on the style.

Before I get into what I think, I just want to say it's just my honest opinion at the end of the day and my redesigns aren't perfect, either. If you like the NotM designs or created some of them yourself, that's great! You do you.

The reason I wanted to redesign them is because, don't take it the wrong way but I just don't think they match the DotT style well. Before anybody gets mad at me, I want to clarify that they're still nice designs and I do like them but they don't really seem to fit that well with the cartoony, exaggerated world of DotT (at least in my eyes).

The design for Bernard in DotT is reused in NotM which I think makes it look off-putting due to the rest of the kids looking more "normal" in comparison and Bernard looking like an alien skin walker with his lack of chin, big ears, poor posture and odd-looking haircut. I redesigned Bernard to look more like the other kids in NotM as well as his Maniac Mansion design so that he wouldn't look as out-of-place. I also redesigned the kids to be more exxagerated and have the types of noses, squirrel cheeks and bulgy eyes you'd find in DotT by artist Larry Ahern.

I think my biggest critique with the NotM designs is how similar the silhouettes of the characters are except for Bernard. I understand art styles are subjective but I think they look too similar to each other. If you don't know what I mean, silhouettes are a common rule in character design by decreasing the brightness of the character until they're pure black and seeing if you can still make out the character by that alone. Day of the Tentacle does this really well with Bernard, Laverne and Hoagie with their haircuts, poses and body shapes whereas Night of the Meteor isn't as strong in comparison.

If I put myself in the artist's shoes, I do understand that having to make a pose and body shape for each character can be hard to do, especially when it comes to walk cycles, and the people behind NotM obviously don't have the same technology as LucasArts which is understandable. In some cases, I'd like to think that Night of the Meteor likes to do it's own art style inspired by DotT, 'cause the characters aren't bad, they're still really nice to look at, as well as the custom backgrounds by Jan-Hendrik who's really talented!

But one more thing I want to say is no, these are not for Night of the Meteor. Hans-Christian already programmed all the existing animations into the game and some of the animations that are already in the final game are really well animated (my personal favourite being Syd using the paint thinner). Hans-Christian and the other artists behind the game have already stressed out enough with what they can do and my redesigns are just personal goofy art I made because I was bored, and I will say my redesigns aren't brilliant either, some people would say that the NotM designs fit their personalities more and they may be right.

This took a few attempts to do but I think this one is the best one I've done.

Changes:
-Took away the green and most of the blue elements because of colour limitations
-Added three sprites of the window curtain; open, closed, and closed with daylight (I'm not sure how to do the night open sprite properly without it looking weird, maybe that can be for another time).
-Added a lamp as a light source rather than the window for either day or night variations.
-Had to remove the picture of Britney because of how small the image would be when compressed.
-Removed the plug socket because of the tight space between the sofa and the doorframe.
-Added a carpet, a bookcase, and a mirror to give the living room a more home-y feel.

Not everybody is probably gonna be a fan of this but I think I did quite well.

Es hat ein paar Versuche gedauert, aber ich glaube, das ist mein bestes.

Änderungen:
- Grüne und die meisten blauen Elemente wurden aufgrund von Farbbeschränkungen entfernt.
- Drei Sprites des Fenstervorhangs hinzugefügt: offen, geschlossen und geschlossen bei Tageslicht (ich bin mir nicht sicher, wie ich den Sprite für die offene Nacht richtig hinbekomme, ohne dass er komisch aussieht; vielleicht bleibt das ein anderes Mal).
- Eine Lampe als Lichtquelle anstelle des Fensters für Tag- oder Nachtvariationen hinzugefügt.
- Das Bild von Britney musste entfernt werden, da das Bild komprimiert zu klein geworden wäre.
- Ein Teppich, ein Bücherregal und ein Spiegel wurden hinzugefügt, um dem Wohnzimmer ein wohnlicheres Gefühl zu verleihen.
- Wegen des engen Raums zwischen Sofa und Türrahmen wurde die Steckdose entfernt.

Wahrscheinlich wird nicht jeder ein Fan davon sein, aber ich denke, ich habe es ganz gut hinbekommen.

Just another BG I made to pass the time... Despite my cringe ideas of doing an actual DotT x Undertale crossover when I was 16... (shudders).

Nur ein weiteres BG, das ich gemacht habe, um mir die Zeit zu vertreiben … Trotz meiner schändlichen Vorstellung, mit 16 ein echtes DotT x Undertale-Crossover zu machen … (schaudert).

DOTTiges / Redesigning Razor for DotT

Based on the unused concept art by Larry Ahern, I made this Razor design for future DotT styled projects. It's just a concept of her design so far but I'll redraw it, give it directions and maybe even animation if I'm that dedicated.

This isn't for NotM however since they already have a design for her, this is just my own take because if I'll be honest, the design for NotM is good in its own but for a DotT style, it's kind of unfitting and even bland in sone places bit that's just my opinion and it's Chris' game at the end of the day.

I'm gonna try and give more personality in her design, including her walk cycle... But the question is: how should she walk?

A somewhat alternative timeline where during the events of MM, the mansion blew up and sent the kids, tentacles and the entire Edison family down to hell (along with the mansion, of course). The Edison's were tormented and the entire mansion was rebuilt into a creepy fun house where the imps wreck the place while the Edison's watch in horror. The goal, as one of the kids, is to go back in time and prevent the explosion from happening in the first place, saving the Edison's and Sandy once and for all.

Special guest: Satan as himself, who is a tired, overly worked wash out who regrets his life choices.

It's going to be in the style of DotT (probably) but with different character designs to NotM because it's pretty much my own take on them.

Any feedback or ideas are welcome.

Eine etwas alternative Zeitlinie, in der während der Ereignisse von MM die Villa explodierte und die Kinder, Tentakeln und die gesamte Edison-Familie in die Hölle schickte (zusammen mit der Villa, natürlich). Die Edisons wurden gequält und die gesamte Villa wurde in ein gruseliges Spaßhaus umgebaut, wo die Kobolde den Ort verwüsten, während die Edisons entsetzt zuschauen. Das Ziel als eines der Kinder ist es, in der Zeit zurückzureisen und die Explosion von vornherein zu verhindern, um die Edisons und Sandy ein für alle Mal zu retten.

Besonderer Gast: Satan als er selbst, ein müder, überarbeiteter Versager, der seine Lebensentscheidungen bereut.

Es wird im Stil von DotT (wahrscheinlich) sein, aber mit anderen Charakterdesigns als NotM, weil es so ziemlich meine eigene Interpretation davon ist.

Feedback oder Ideen sind willkommen.

I like to report an issue with the mobile phone version of scummVM when I play the Bernard starter pack. When I try to go downstairs, Bernard just walks there but doesn't actually go down, he just stands there no matter how much I tap. I can open doors, pick up objects, use objects on other objects, I just struggle with this small issue.

Ich möchte ein Problem mit der Handyversion von scummVM melden, wenn ich das Bernard-Starterpaket spiele. Wenn ich versuche, nach unten zu gehen, geht Bernard einfach dorthin, geht aber nicht wirklich nach unten, er steht einfach da, egal wie oft ich tippe. Ich kann Türen öffnen, Objekte aufheben, Objekte auf andere Objekte anwenden, ich habe nur mit diesem kleinen Problem zu kämpfen.
